Neoprene Rubber Strip

Neoprene Rubber Strip

Neoprene Rubber Strip

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets, we manufacture 1000’s of high-quality neoprene rubber strips each day, these strips are sometimes referred to as glazing strip, weatherstrip, sealing strip or isolation strip. Neoprene rubber strips are all manufactured by our highly skilled workforce using state of the art machinery, following our customer's samples or drawings.

We can produce made to measure neoprene rubber strips using our band saws, strippers, log cutters and even presses depending upon the size and quantity required. In-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high quality, competitively priced strips.

Our neoprene rubber strips are cut from rolls, which are manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses starting at just 1mm, these can be supplied coated with self-adhesive backing or laminated to other materials, which can then be cut into strips from 4mm wide and in a choice of 10mtr coils or pre-cut lengths. Neoprene rubber strips are commonly used in external applications as the material has excellent resistance to ageing, ozone and weathering, however other grades are available for more specific industries.

What is Neoprene Rubber Strip?

Neoprene, also sometimes referred to as polychloroprene is a synthetic rubber, black in colour,  which possesses good chemical stability and maintains its structure and flexibility when exposed to a wide range of temperatures. Neoprene rubber strips are highly durable as the material holds a high tolerance to extreme weathers and conditions, with good resistance to oil, chemicals and ozone.

Neoprene rubber strips can be produced in a range of hardnesses from  40°- 70° shore (the shore hardness is measured using a shore durometer which indicates the level of resistance to indentation, the higher number on the scale indicate a greater resistance - harder the material/lower number indicate less resistance- softer the material).

Neoprene rubber strips are usually used for sealing or as a gasket and placed between two surfaces to create a low-pressure seal preventing the leakage of liquids or gas and to seal against the intrusion of dust and debris.

    Why use Neoprene Rubber Strip?

Neoprene rubber strips have an array of desirable properties which means they can be used within countless applications. Neoprene rubber strips have good resistance to chemicals, UV, ozone/weathering and moderate resistance to oils (animal/vegetable) and inorganic salts.

It has a wide working temperature range of -20˚C and 80˚C (depending on grade) and is a strong material with excellent abrasion properties.   Neoprene rubber strips are a popular choice for outdoor applications and sealing components within the construction and automotive industries as window/door seals, pumps, hydraulics and flanges.

    Different Grades

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a number of material manufacturers and suppliers, ensuring our customers always have quality and choice when purchasing neoprene rubber strip. Neoprene rubber strips can be supplied in a number of grades and hardnesses, some of the main ones being:

(BS2752) British standard 2752  is a higher performing, stronger grade of neoprene rubber which offers a wider working temperature range of  -30°C up to +120°C, greater resistance to ageing, weathering, acids, inorganic salts, oils and ozone as well as improved strength and anti-abrasion qualities in comparison to standard neoprene.  This grade is available inshore hardnesses of 40°, 50°, 60°, 70° and 80°.

Flame retardant neoprene rubber strips can handle continuous temperatures of -30°C to +100°C, this material meets the test requirements of the flammability standard UL94-V0 and is in line with ISO 340. Flame retardant neoprene rubber sheets are also tested in accordance with anti-static BS 490.

Food Quality (FDA) neoprene is white in colour and conforms to EC and FDA regulations for use within the food processing and pharmaceutical industries.  Properties including resistance to fats, greases and vegetable oils, combined with higher tensile strength and wider working temperature range of -30°C up to +130°C make it a popular material to use.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene rubber you require for your application, samples of our materials are readily available for your perusal and can be sent out upon request.

    Benefits of Neoprene Rubber Strip

    • Popular for external & automotive sealing  applications
    • Durable
    • Variety of Grades available
    • Impermeable to water and dust
    • Moderate resistance to oil, chemical greases and fats.
    • Excellent resistance to ozone, weathering and ageing

Advantages of Using Neoprene Rubber Strip

Neoprene rubber strips are utilised in many industries, this is due to the availability of different grades, the ease at which strips can be cut into many sizes, and the vast number of excellent properties the material has.

Neoprene rubber strips are the preferred choice where a durable, strong, abrasive material is required in an environment where exposure or sealing against extreme weather, water, salts, oil grease, UV/Ozone and gases is necessary. Neoprene rubber material is readily available in a range of thicknesses making the process of cutting strips a fairly quick process.

certain seals a quick process, however more complex extrusions will take longer due to the processes involved. The strength and tear resistance of the material also allows us to accurately cut or extrude seals to meet our customer exact specifications.
