Nitrile Rubber Gaskets

Nitrile Rubber Gaskets

Advanced Seals & Gaskets offer a huge choice of high-quality gaskets, cut from a range of materials, including nitrile rubber, a durable synthetic material often used in sealing applications. Our nitrile rubber gaskets are produced in-house, meaning we can manufacture bespoke items to match our customer's samples/drawings, from a simple rectangular picture frame gasket, to a more complex shape with cut-outs, notches or bolt holes.

Whether it’s a small sample batch or a multi-thousand run, we have a machine designed to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed gaskets every time. Our Nitrile rubber is manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses starting at just 1mm, which can then be laminated to other materials or coated with a self-adhesive backing prior to the gaskets being cut.

Nitrile rubber gaskets can be produced in different grades, and range of hardnesses from 40°- 70° shore (the shore hardness is measured using a shore durometer which indicates the level of resistance to indentation, the higher number on the scale indicate a greater resistance - harder the material/lower number indicate less resistance- softer the material). Nitrile rubber gaskets are commonly used in automotive and aerospace sealing applications as the material has excellent resistance to oils, fuels and gases.

What is a Nitrile Rubber Gasket?

Nitrile rubber is sometimes also referred to as Nitrile butadiene or NBR rubber, which is a synthetic rubber produced from a copolymer of acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene.  Nitrile rubber gaskets sometimes come in the form of a strip or pad but are generally an intricately cut shaped piece of material placed between two surfaces to create a low-pressure seal preventing the leakage of liquids or gas and to seal against the intrusion of dust and debris.

Due to its excellent resistance to many fuels, oils and grease, and physical properties of good abrasion and tear resistance, nitrile rubber gaskets are often the first choice for use within automotive, oil and aerospace industries.

    Gaskets

Here at ASG, we offer gaskets in an array of materials such as EPDM, Silicone, Solid rubber, Cork, Felt & Textiles, Plastics, Polyethylene, Polyurethane and PVC foam to name just a few.  Gaskets are designed for sealing between 2 or more irregular surfaces, where they prevent leakages once compressed, having the incorrect shape, size or material would cause the gasket to fail, therefore all of our gaskets are made in house with specialised machinery as we understand the final cut and finish of gaskets needs to be perfect

    Why use Nitrile Rubber Gaskets?

Nitrile rubber gaskets have many excellent properties and are available in different shore hardnesses and grades each suited to different industries. Nitrile rubber seal is an excellent material for creating air, dust and watertight seal, with good tensile strength, anti-abrasion properties and resistance to petrol, mineral & vegetable oils and some acids and alkalis.

The material has some flame retardancy, and a working temperature range of -20°C to +70℃. Nitrile rubber gaskets are mostly recognised by the material's resistance to ‘swell’ when under exposure to oils and fuel, therefore holding its sealing capabilities. Nitrile rubber seals are a popular choice for automotive belting, hoses, o-rings, and oil seals within engines, hydraulics and flanges.

    Differnt Grades

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material and tooling manufacturers, meaning we have access to various grades of nitrile rubber and can produce gaskets in any shape or size for many sealing applications, some of the other grades include:

(British Standard ) BS 2751 Nitrile is higher quality synthetic elastomer compared to commercial nitrile in terms of it’s improved elongation at break, tensile strength and resistance to a broader temperature range of -30°C up to +110°C.  BS2751 nitrile is manufactured inshore hardnesses of 40° to 80°.

Blue Metal detectable nitrile rubber is a synthetic elastomer that is manufactured with an additive visible to metal detector scanners.  This grade of material has excellent tear and abrasion resistance and is suitable for food, beverage and pharmaceutical applications as a way of detecting and reducing contamination.

Food Quality (FDA) Nitrile rubber is available in white or blue colour options, both conforming to  EC & FDA regulations, for use within food and pharmaceutical processing industries where the material needs to be resistant to vegetable oils, animal fats, fish oils and greases.

    Benefits of Nitrile Rubber Gaskets

    • Water, mineral/oil, petrol resistance.
    • Can be formed into complex seals and extrusions
    • Abrasive resistant
    • Water Proof
    • Excellent sea against gasses
    • Excellent for automotive applications

Advantages of Using Nitrile Rubber Gaskets

There are many advantages to using Nitrile rubber gaskets as the material is highly versatile and robust, this matched with the high resistance to oils, gases, fuels, grease, water and most acids makes Nitrile rubber seals highly sought after in many industries including automotive, construction, oil and aerospace.

Nitrile rubber gaskets are highly effective in keeping out particles and hazardous materials while keeping in the desired materials without any issue.  The high resistance and durability of Nitrile rubber mean the gaskets are long-lasting and can be easily cut into the desired profile without the risk of tearing or stretching the material.
