Synthetic Cork Sheet

Synthetic Cork Sheet

Synthetic Cork Sheet

One of Advanced Seals & Gaskets' cork grades includes synthetic bonded cork, available in standard thicknesses and laminated for custom depths or composite materials. Our standard sheet sizes are 1m x 1m or 2m x 1m, but we offer bespoke sizes, plain or laminated with self-adhesives, foils, or other materials. Our in-house conversion facilities enable the production of custom pads, gaskets, washers, and strips using various presses and saws.

What are Synthetic Cork Sheets?

Synthetic bonded cork combines synthetic rubber and cork granules, resulting in a speckled, darker material suitable for applications involving fuel, oil, and the need for watertight seals.

Our synthetic cork sheets are available in diverse sizes and thicknesses, providing customers the flexibility to create their own components. Alternatively, we offer converted products like gaskets, washers, pads, and strips, featuring various finishes such as foils, self-adhesives, or laminations with other materials, enhancing the material's properties.

    Why use Synthetic Cork Sheets?

Synthetic cork sheets serve multiple purposes, including crafting gaskets, strips, washers, and pads for sealing against dust, air, gas, and moisture. They also fill gaps between uneven surfaces and dampen noise and vibration. These flexible, compressible materials are compatible with various fluids and exhibit resistance to weathering, acid, and fungal growth. They find widespread use in sealing applications, particularly within the automotive industry, and in environments exposed to oils, chemicals, and liquids.

    Different Grades of Cork Available

Different grades of cork, including Neoprene Bonded, Nitrile Bonded, and Resin Bonded, are utilized in various industries, each possessing distinct attributes based on its composition.

Neoprene bonded cork excels in high-temperature sealing, weather resistance, and oil resistance, making it suitable for applications in oil, engineering, electrical, anti-vibration, and soundproofing.

Resin-bonded cork is a lightweight and flexible cork variant held together by synthetic resin, offering resilience against certain acids and often used in water-retaining applications.

Nitrile bonded cork, marked by a speckled appearance, combines cork and nitrile rubber granules. Gaskets crafted from this material find application where oil and fuel resistance, as well as high-temperature resistance, are essential, particularly in automotive and general engineering industries.

Natural Cork, composed of cork grains bonded by a liquid binder known as 'agglomeration,' is a cost-effective option. It serves various purposes, from simple coasters to air/dust/water seals, thermal insulation, and applications in acoustics and anti-vibration.

Benefits of Using Synthetic Cork Sheets

Advanced Seals & Gaskets leverage our extensive network of material suppliers and manufacturers, empowering us to provide synthetic cork sheets in an array of sizes, thicknesses, and grades. A substantial portion of these options is readily available in our inventory, ensuring swift delivery for converted products and expedited dispatch times for full sheets.

The utilization of synthetic cork sheets bestows numerous advantages, encompassing exceptional attributes such as thermal insulation, proficient noise and vibration absorption capabilities, and a formidable ability to seal against air, water, and chemical seepage. Cork emerges as a chemically inert substance, immune to the growth of fungus and mold, inherently flame retardant, anti-static, remarkably flexible, and impressively durable. Additionally, cork material lends itself to effortless cutting and manipulation, exhibits excellent adhesive retention, and, thanks to its flexible nature, effortlessly conforms and adheres to a diverse range of surfaces.
