Ethafoam Strip

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are leading UK converters and suppliers of cut strip, including Ethafoam Strips, which are just one of various types of Polyethylene Foams we stock.   Our materials are sourced from the highest quality manufacturers from across the world, allowing us to offer our customers more choice when they are looking for sealing, insulation and packaging solutions to their application.

Most polyethylene materials are manufactured in block form, this includes Ethafoam, which vary in size depending on the density and grade but as standard are supplied in 2m x 1m or 1m x 1m sheet sizes or or rolls which are made by joining blocks of material together prior to splitting them, both of which can be used to further convert into cut strips in lengths of up to 100 meters.

Ethafoam Polyethylene strips,  gasket tapes or sealing strips or foam tapes as they are commonly known, are all made to order, manufactured using state of the art machinery including band saws, strippers, log cutters and even presses depending upon the size and quantity required - for very small strips in high volume runs, a kiss-cut option may also be available for faster production and time efficiency for the end user.

In-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high quality, competitively priced  Ethafoam strips.  Our on-site laminating service enables us to supply polyethylene foam strips in choice of finishes including plain or coated on one of both faces with a range of self-adhesives, foils or even laminated to other materials.

    What are Ethafoam Strips?

Ethafoam strips are pieces of material cut to a specific width and length as requested by our customers, in some cases available as continuous rolls or coils to be cut as when needed by the end user, often used in a similar way to a gasket placed between two surfaces to create a seal, provide cushioning or insulation.

The Ethafoam material used to produce these strips is a resilient and flexible closed-cell polyethylene foam, similar to polystyrene in appearance and feel, which has a range of uses due to its durability and flexibility.  Ethafoam is a low-density plastic foam made by expanding polyethylene by around 30 times in volume, which is manufactured or ‘extruded’ as planks so that it has skin on both faces which is textured, with exposed cell along the edges where it has been down to size.

Ethafoam strips are available in white or grey, and in different grades and densities such as 24kg/m2 and 64kg/m2 for packaging, 102kg/m2 and 145kg/m2 for high load bearing,  a Flame Retardant grade and Anti-static which is recognisable by its pink colouration.  Ethafoam strips are usually found for use as packaging or transportation due to its impact, shock absorption and cushioning properties and its resistance to moisture.

    Why use Ethafoam Strips?

Ethafoam strips are pieces of material cut to a specific width and length as requested by our customers, in some cases available as continuous rolls or coils to be cut as when needed by the end user, often used in a similar way to a gasket placed between two surfaces to create a seal, provide cushioning or insulation.

Ethafoam strips are often found used within packaging and are vital in the storage and transportation of fragile, sensitive and valuable products.  Where protection from repeated impact, moisture, chemicals and mildew or fungus is required, Ethafoam is a go to material, which can be machined or fabricated into bespoke sized strips in order to securely hold items in place whilst providing cushioning.

As Ethafoam is manufactured in a number of grades and densities, the strips can be used for holding products regardless of its weight, however due to the coarse nature of the material it may not always be suitable for direct contact with products especially those with a polished or delicate surface as it may cause abrasive damage.

Benefits of using Polyethylene Ethafoam Strips:

    • Shock, impact and vibration absorption
    • Moisture resistant
    • Impervious to many chemicals, mould, fungus and bacteria
    • Easy to cut, carve and fabricate
    • Available in a range of densities
    • Lightweight

    • Conductive Polyethylene
    • Plastazote foams
    • Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam

    Advantages of using Ethafoam Strips

Ethafoam is supplied in sheet or ‘plank’ form as standard, but as this material is so machinable, it can easily be pressed and sawn into strips and rolls of self adhesive foam.   Ethafoam Polyethylene is a very strong, lightweight material with a skin finish which creates a moisture, mildew and bacteria resistant strip.  This material itself is resilient therefore the strips cut from it are able to withstand repeated impact, vibration and will insulate against heat and cold - offering a working temperature range of -30 to +80ºC and resistance to many chemicals.

Just some of the advantages of using Ethafoam for the production of strips is its durability, choice grey or white colours, selection of available densities from 24kg/m3 to 145kg/m2 to be able to withstand even extreme weight and in specialist grades such as Flame Retardant and Anti-Static.  Ethafoam shock and vibration absorption levels can be increased by stacking or layering multiple sheets together to create depth prior to cutting the strips.

Due to the choice of Ethafoam materials available, the strips can be found used in a range of applications from standard packaging around electrical appliances, white goods and case inserts through to supporting very heavy objects such as ground cables or under machinery feet.
