Neoprene Sponge Rubber (FR Grade)

One of the many solid rubber materials offered by ASG is neoprene sponge which is available in a choice of grades including Flame Retardant. This material itself is manufactured in block form which is used to convert into finished usable products.

Using state of the art machinery, we are able to split the blocks or buns down to sheets starting at as little as 1mm, in a standard size of 1900mm x 1 meter in size., alternatively we can join the blocks together and split the material down into continuous rolls in a length of your choice.

Flame retardant neoprene sponges can be supplied in full sheets or rolls, alternatively, they can be further converted on-site into various other products including gaskets, washers, pads and strips, supplied with a plain or self-adhesive backed finish using our in-house laminating service.

What is Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge?

Flame retardant neoprene is also often referred to as polychloroprene or CR, it is one of many materials on offer from our vast catalogue.   This grey coloured, closed-cell, general-purpose material is very versatile and used to manufacture a number of our products, offering all of the properties of a standard neoprene such as good weathering, oil and chemical resistance, but with the addition of being used as a flame-resistant barrier for fire risk applications as it meets flammability tests of FMVSS302 / UL94-HF1.

Why use Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge?

Flame Retardant Neoprene rubber has a range of desirable properties which means it can be used within countless applications.

Neoprene rubber has fair resistance to oils, acids and alkalis with good resistance to gases, UV, ozone, weathering and oxidation. It has a wide working temperature range of-30°C to +100℃, a shore hardness of around 65° and is a strong material with excellent abrasion properties.

Flame Retardant  Neoprene rubber can be converted into a range of products such as sleeves, belts, tubes, gaskets and washers for use in countless applications including electrical insulations, engineering applications, marine, chemical handling and anti-vibration to name a few.

The Advantages of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge

Flame retardant neoprene sponge is a premium grade material, manufactured to conform with a number of standards and to offer many advantageous properties.

The material itself is long-lasting, with a wide operating temperature range that can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications. It’s easy to convert into many bespoke products and will hold self-adhesive and other backings well.

Under minimal compression, neoprene will provide excellent dust, air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil. Being a flexible and robust material, neoprene sponge is suitable for use within many applications including the production of flame retardant selas, within transport, chemical seals and weather strips.

Benefits of using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge

    • Oil & chemical resistant
    • Durable
    • UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed-cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

    Different Types Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a number of material manufacturers, meaning our customers benefit from a choice of neoprene grades:

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge gaskets are also closed-cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and has a density of 180kg (+/- 25), meaning they can be used in more heavy-duty applications, where less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene, making it the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your gasket or would like samples for your own tests.
