Sulphur Free EPDM

Sulphur Free EPDM Sponge Rubber

EPDM, a versatile material offered in various forms, is highly popular at Advanced Seals & Gaskets. One notable variant is Sulphur Free EPDM Sponge, also known as Peroxide Cured EPDM. We stock this material in block form for further processing.

Our well-equipped in-house manufacturing facilities feature splitters, bandsaws, log cutters, slitters, presses, and oscillating knives, enabling us to transform material blocks into sheets, rolls, or finished components like pads, washers, gaskets, or strips. We also provide on-site laminating services, allowing customers to choose between plain finish or items coated with our self-adhesives or foils.

What is Sulphur Free EPDM Sponge Rubber?

Standard EPDM grades are sulfur-cured, but for sensitive applications where corrosion of metal components like copper and silver must be avoided, a sulfur-free or peroxide-cured material, known as Sulphur Free EPDM, is essential. This is crucial in applications like lighting and electronics, as sulfur-free curing processes ensure better chemical and temperature resistance, preventing electrical device failures.

Why use Sulphur Free EPDM Sponge?

Sulphur Free EPDM, a closed-cell material, excels in thermal insulation, shock absorption, UV and ozone resistance, sealing against dust, air, and moisture. Its superior chemical and temperature resistance, compared to standard EPDM, ensures safety in lighting, electronics, and automotive applications.

The Benefits of using Sulphur Free EPDM sponge

    • Noise, vibration, shock and reduction
    • Naturally compressible to create the perfect air or moisture seal
    • Closed cell structure   prevents bacteria and mould build up
    • Excellent properties making it popular for use in a range of industries and applications
    • Easy to convert into a range of products including pads, strips and gaskets, and will hold most adhesives well
    • Cost savings on equipment and appliance failure

Grades of EPDM sponge rolls available

ASG maintains a diverse inventory of EPDM sponge grades, each meticulously designed to cater to specific applications. These options encompass:

EPDM Sponge Medium Density: This variant excels in sealing air and water, enduring aging without brittleness, and showcasing robust UV resistance. Its temperature tolerance spans from -20°C to 85°C, and it serves as an outstanding electrical insulator. This material also exhibits good resistance against ketones, diluted acids and alkalis, as well as ozone, UV, and weathering. Its overall resilience to abrasion is impressive. Importantly, it complies with flammability standards FMVSS302 and UL94 HBF.

High-Temperature EPDM Foam: Notably, this closed-cell foam maintains remarkable flexibility even at low temperatures, boasting an impressive operational range from -50°C to +128°C. Its outstanding mechanical attributes and thermal insulation properties render it an ideal choice for various industries and applications, including HVAC, refrigeration, pipeline, automotive, white goods, and building & construction.

Semi-Open Cell EPDM: This innovative product fuses the flexibility of an open-cell material with the superior sealing capabilities of closed-cell types when compressed. Semi-open cell EPDM allows the ingress of air, dust, and moisture until it's compressed by 80% of its thickness, at which point it becomes watertight and airtight, behaving similarly to a closed-cell product.

Firm Grade EPDM Foam: This material offers resilience, maintaining its shape under load, along with increased tear strength. Suited for demanding applications such as automotive, white goods, marine, defense, and building and construction.

Advantages of using Sulphur Free EPDM

EPDM offers a range of benefits, tailored to specific applications. Sulphur Free EPDM, still a closed-cell material, provides thermal insulation, shock absorption, UV resistance, and effective sealing. What sets it apart is its superior chemical and temperature resistance compared to standard EPDM.

Materials vulcanized with sulfur can lead to metal corrosion, risking equipment failure. This is why Sulphur Free EPDM is the ideal choice for applications in lighting, electronics, and automotive industries, as it won't react adversely with metals.

Furthermore, Sulphur Free EPDM is supplied in block form, allowing customers to request customized components, as the material can be split and fabricated according to their unique requirements. This flexibility is highly advantageous in addressing specific needs and applications.
