Plastic Seals

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd work with a number of manufacturers and suppliers, therefore able to offer seals produced using an array of non-metallic materials including plastics. We produce some of the highest quality plastic seals in the UK, taking the forms of gaskets, washers, O-rings and extrusions, which are all designed for the purpose of preventing leaks or the ingress of air, fluids and gas. All our seals are made to order and are based on samples or drawings provided by customers to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application. As each form of seal needs to be manufactured using a different process, ASG has invested heavily in various machinery meaning we can produce both high and low volumes.

What are Plastic Seals?

Seals are a device or substrate that are used to join surfaces together, acting as a separator or a barrier to prevent liquids, particles or gases escaping or penetrating the application. ‘Seal’ is a generic term for products often taking the form of cut gaskets, strips, washers, extruded or moulded profiles and edge trims. Plastics are often used to manufacture seals as they’re lightweight and one of the preferred alternatives to metal due to their durability and resistance to corrosion, they also come in different grades with a range of qualities for example impact strength, heat and chemical resistance, etc.

Why use Plastic Seals?

Plastic seals are available in a variety of grades and have a number of properties and can be used as a solution in a number of applications including sealing against fuel, oil and water,  in machinery where exposed to water and where there is exposure to corrosive fluids. Industries that utilize plastics seals are packaging, petrochemical, oil & gas and petrochemical processing.

Types of Plastic

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when choosing their plastic washer, each type has its own range of properties, colours, thicknesses, etc – our most popular materials being:

  • PTFE
  • Polycarbonate
  • Polypropylene
  • HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)
  • PVC
  • ABS
  • Polyester
  • Acetal
  • Acrylic
  • Nylatron

Benefits of Using Plastic Seals

Using plastic seals offers a whole host of benefits, not only are they cheaper and lighter in weight in comparison to metal and some sponge options, but also offer more resistance to wear, abrasion and corrosion (will not rust unlike metal washers). Despite being a fairly rigid material, plastic washers can still be compressed to create a tight seal and as well as being great for insulation applications as they do not conduct heat or electricity.  For more information on how plastic can help with your application, please give our sales team a call.
