Basotech Foam Pads

Foam pads can be cut from a choice of hundreds of materials, with Melamine or Basotech being just one of many polyurethane materials on offer from Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, sometimes also called Melamine foam, Basotect foam, Melamine Basotect foam or Melamine Polyurethane foam (used to manufacture a range of products including melamine basotect polyurethane foam pads).

As with many Polyurethane foams, Melamine foam is manufactured in jumbo or master blocks (buns), which are 2500mm long x 1250mm wide x 500mm thick as standard. These buns are are held in stock ready for conversion, where they can be cut, sawn or split into sheets or joined and split to produce melamine PU foam rolls from which basotect polyurethane foam pads can be cut.

As all our conversions are carried out on site, we can split down sheets and produce melamine basotect polyurethane foam pads from as little as 1.5mm thick, laminate layers to create a range of non standard thicknesses of your choice or even laminate multiple materials together to create composite materials.

Regardless of the size and quantity of pads required, one of our many presses, bandsaws or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product, from one-off samples to large batch runs, which depending on size can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls where a high quantity is required or for use on fast-paced assembly lines.

What are Melamine Basotect Polyurethane Foam Pads?

Melamine or "Basotect" foams are a low density, open cell PU foam, formulated using melamine resin (a duroplastic synthetic material), creating a lightweight, flexible and very soft material, available in a choice of colours ranging from very dark grey, to white each suited to different applications and to be aesthetically pleasing. Using in-house machinery we can produce melamine basotect polyurethane foam pads as squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval shaped pads or ‘discs’, in a range of thicknesses.

Manufacturing basotect polyurethane foam pads in-house even means we can supply them in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations. Melamine basotect polyurethane foam pads were previously recognised as the material used as the ‘magic sponge’, which was known to clean and remove stains without the need for detergents thanks to its porous cell structure and abrasive nature.

However, traditionally they are more likely to be found used within HVAC, ductwork and soundproofing applications.

Why use Melamine Basotect Polyurethane Foam Pads?

Polyurethane foams vary greatly between types in appearance and the properties they offer, for example reticulated foams have a very open cell structure for air and water filtration applications, whereas polyester foams have a tighter cell structure which will allow air flow but will filter out dust particles.

Alongside these, there are a number of reasons why basotect polyurethane foam pads are chosen for use in many applications and industries. Its abrasive nature makes it excellent for cleaning surfaces such as glass, tiles and ceramic hobs and it can be used in high-temperature applications reaching up to 240°C and is naturally flame resistant even without additional additives.

Melamine foam pads can be found used within many industries including building & construction in the form of acoustic and thermal insulation panelling in studios and theatres or used with machinery and marine equipment for noise and vibration absorption.

As well as insulation application it is also widely used within the HVAC industry to create air conditioning or ventilation components which can be precisely cut for a perfect fit even on curved surfaces.

Benefits Of Using Melamine Basotect PU Foam

    • Open cell structure allowing for water absorption
    • basotect polyurethane foam pads contains abrasive properties
    • Flame resistance
    • Melamine basotect polyurethane foam pads have high sound and thermal insulation properties
    • Lightweight
    • Heat endurance

The Advantages of Using Melamine Basotect Foam Pads

Melamine basotect polyurethane foam pads have a number of advantages, many of which are listed within the benefits section, they are highly durable and can be used in a broad spectrum of applications and industries, including cleaning pads, thermal insulation, sound absorption and insulation and filtration components within the HVAC industry.

This foam is very lightweight which makes it ideal for cutting basotect polyurethane foam pads which can be fitted to walls and ceilings within buildings and also as interiors on trains and aircraft. It is suitable for very high-temperature applications - remaining stable even at 240⁰C and is naturally flame retardant without the need for further additives during the compounding process.

Melamine basotect polyurethane foam pads is manufactured as standard in a block size of 2500mm long x 1250mm wide x 500mm thick, which can be split down and cut, sawn or pressed into polyurethane foam pads of any size in thicknesses from as little as 1.5mm, all supplied in a plain or self-adhesive option - available in several shades of grey and white to be physically more attractive when placed in position.

Other Grades of Open Cell PU Foams Available:

Polyester - This material has an open cell structure suited for use as filtration media for sound - ideal for speaker panels.

Polyether is made up of large open cells which allow for airflow without retaining moisture, making it perfect for use as filtration foams, aquarium foams and marine equipment.

Class O Acoustic is found used in many acoustic and thermal insulation applications within building and construction industries. It can also be used in heating and ventilation applications where a fire rated material is essential.

Reticulated Foam - Recognised by its fully open cellular structure and appearance, which is ideal for air and liquid filtration, even when used with mild acids and alkalis, fuel, organic chemicals, oils, lubricants and detergents. Available in 10ppi 20ppi 30ppi 45ppi 60ppi 80ppi (pores per inch).
