Flame Retardant Foam Fabrication

Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Fabrication

Flame Retardant Foam Fabrication

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd manufacture various fabricated components from a range of non-metallic materials such as foam, sponge, plastic, cork and rubber, one of our popular ones being flame retardant neoprene sponge.  As neoprene sponge FR grade, is one of our stock materials, fabricated parts can be processed within a minimal lead time using blocks of sponge and specialist machinery, usually a selection of saws, drills, buffers and knives.

When choosing ASG for your fabrications, you will also benefit from the option of using our CNC oscillating knife, which can automatically cut and drill fabricated parts by reading CAD drawings. Fabricated parts are often used as a cheaper alternative to mouldings and extrusions (as there is no initial die or tooling cost) for the production of bespoke shapes, usually required as one-off prototypes or small quantity runs.

All our fabrications are made to order using samples or drawings provided by customers, taking many forms for example multiple materials laminating to create composite sheets which are then cut down into gaskets, washers, strips, displays, signage and seals with flexible joints or irregular angles.

What is a Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Fabrication?

Flame retardant neoprene sponge is just one of many closed-cell materials on offer from our vast catalogue which we can use to construct fabrications, manufactured from a high-quality blend of chemicals- polychloroprene (Neoprene) and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), to create a highly versatile product, suitable for applications where a stable, flexible and durable material is required.

This grey coloured, closed-cell, general-purpose material is very versatile and used to manufacture a number of our products, offering all of the properties of a standard neoprene such as good weathering, oil and chemical resistance, but with the addition of being used as a flame-resistant barrier for fire risk applications as it meets flammability tests of FMVSS302 / UL94-HF1.

Fabrication is the procedure of turning blocks or pieces of the flame retardant neoprene sponge into custom 3D unable shapes. Fabrications are created using CNC machines, saws, drills, buffers, etc enabling us to create unique products that usually cannot be produced by one single process, where the item is too big to be produced one single piece, or where 3D profiles are required such as cubes or cone shapes.

Supplying fabricated parts also allows us to produce composite flame retardant foam sheets (laminating multiple layers of different materials together), before cutting the final shapes or profiles.

Why use Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Fabrications?

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a team dedicated to fabrications and the production of one-offs and complex products to use during design and prototype development or when singular items are required.

Fabrications are often used as a cheaper alternative to mouldings and extrusions (as there is no initial set-up or tooling cost) for the production of bespoke shapes. They are ideal for use as samples or prototypes prior to paying for expensive tooling for mouldings or extrusions for bulk production. Sponge fabrications are perfect for producing propers, signs, displays and packaging case inserts with cutouts to hold items in place.

By using flame retardant neoprene sponge, fabricated pares will offer a fair resistance to oils, acids and alkalis with good resistance to gases, UV, ozone, weathering and oxidation.   It has a wide working temperature range of-30°C to +100℃, a shore hardness of around 65° and is a strong material with excellent abrasion properties.

The Advantages of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge fabrications

Flame retardant neoprene sponge is a premium grade material, manufactured to offer all the properties and features of standard neoprene sponge, but also conforms to flammability tests UL94-HF1 and FMVSS302 for use in applications where the risk of fire is present.

The material itself is long-lasting, with a wide operating temperature range that can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications. It’s easy to convert into many bespoke products using a range of techniques and processes and will hold self-adhesive and other backings well.

Under minimal compression, neoprene will provide excellent dust, air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil.  Flame retardant neoprene sponge is another of ASG’s core materials, held in stock as a block, sheet and roll, ready for immediate despatch and conversion.

Benefits of using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge

    • Flame retardant neoprene sponge is Oil & chemical resistant
    • Durable
    • Our flame retardant neoprene sponge is UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

    Different Types Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with several material manufacturers, meaning our customers benefit from a choice of neoprene grades:

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge gaskets are also closed-cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and has a density of 180kg (+/- 25), meaning they can be used in more heavy-duty applications less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM, and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your gasket or would like samples for your own tests.
