Flame Retardant Neoprene Washers

ASG work with a host of suppliers and manufacturers allowing us to produce washers from a variety of materials including flame retardant neoprene sponge. This material is manufactured and stocked in block form which can be easily converted into a number of finished usable products such as neoprene sponge washers.

Using state of the art machinery, we are able to split the blocks or buns down to rolls or sheets starting at as little as 1 mm thick from which neoprene sponge washers can be cut, supplied in a plain finish or coated with a choice of adhesive tapes and foils.

Our flame retardant neoprene sponge washers are produced on-site using drawings, samples or measurements provided by our customers, with whom we work closely to ensure the final product is to their exact specification.

Depending upon the size and quantity of neoprene sponge washers required, one of many presses, kiss-cut machines or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product, from one-off samples to multiple thousand batch runs which can be supplied as loosely packed parts, or kiss-cut on rolls.

What are Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Washers?

Flame retardant neoprene is also often referred to as polychloroprene or CR, it is one of many materials on offer from our vast catalogue.

This grey coloured, closed-cell, general-purpose material is very versatile and used to manufacture a number of our products, including our fr neoprene sponge washers, offering all of the properties of a standard neoprene such as good weathering, oil and chemical resistances, but with the addition of being used as a flame-resistant barrier for fire risk applications as it meets flammability tests of FMVSS302 / UL94-HF1.

When cut into a ring with an outer diameter (OD) and inner diameter (ID) measurement, the material forms a washer, FR neoprene sponge washers can be placed between two surfaces creating a level surface, used as a spacer, to create a better fit for mechanical fasteners such as screws or placed between a nut and bolt to spread the pressure when tightened.

Why use Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Washers?

Neoprene sponge washers are flat, circular-shaped pieces of material with a hole in the centre usually used alongside threaded bolts, screws and other fasteners. Neoprene sponge washers are often used within pipework where they can create air and liquid-tight seals, but surprisingly serve a number of purposes which include load distribution, to reduce the stress on the materials into which fasteners are driven and therefore reducing damage.

Flame retardant neoprene sponge washers are also used as spacers to allow a better fit of fasteners, for example where the fastener is too long, washers can be used to create padding and fill the gap ensuring the fastener doesn't go too deep. Finally, washers can be designed to absorb vibration, especially when used to connect objects with hard surfaces and a lot of movement flame retardant neoprene sponge rubber has a range of desirable properties which means it can be found used within countless applications.

Flame retardant neoprene sponge washers offer fair resistance to oils, acids and alkalis with good resistance to gases, UV, ozone, weathering and oxidation and its closed cell structure prevents the mould and fungus growth and provides an excellent seal against water and air with minimal compression. They have a wide working temperature range of -40°C to +80℃ and are tested to Flame Resistance FMVSS302 and UL94-HF1 and are great for use in abrasive applications.

The Advantages of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Washers

Flame retardant neoprene sponge is a premium grade material, manufactured to offer all the properties and features of standard neoprene sponge washers, but also conforms to flammability tests  UL94-HF1 and FMVSS302 for use in applications where the risk of fire is present.

The material itself is long-lasting, with a wide operating temperature range which can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications, manufactured and cured as blocks which are easy to convert into many bespoke products including neoprene sponge washers using a range of techniques and will hold self-adhesive and other backings well.

Under minimal compression, neoprene FR grade sponge washers can provide excellent dust,  air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil. Being a flexible and robust material, neoprene FR sponge washers are often used in many industries including automotive and transport, building and construction and HVAC.

Flame retardant neoprene sponge washers is another of ASG’s core materials, held in stock as a block, sheet and roll, ready for immediate despatch and washer conversion.

Benefits of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge

    • Oil & chemical resistant
    • Durable
    • UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed-cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

    Different Types Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with several material manufacturers, meaning our customers benefit from a choice of neoprene grades:

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge gaskets are also closed-cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and has a density of 180kg (+/- 25), meaning they can be used in more heavy-duty applications less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM, and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your gasket or would like samples for your own tests.
