Polyester Plastic Pads

Polyester Plastic Pads

Polyester Plastic Pads

Cut and pressed plastic pads make up just a small proportion of the thousands of products manufactured and supplied from ASG.  We are able to offer pads produced using numerous grades, colours and thicknesses, one of which includes our Polyester Plastic Pads.

Polyester plastics or PET  Polyester resins combine excellent mechanical, electrical and thermal properties with very good chemical resistance and dimensional stability. Polyesters also offer low moisture absorption and have good flow properties.  Polyester plastic materials used in the conversion of cut pads can be manufactured in a standard grade, but also in glass-reinforced and flame retardant variants  -  these specialist grades are designed for use in applications where a higher strength or heat resistance is required.

Polyester Plastics can be supplied in a range of sheet sizes up to 3050 x 2050mm and in thicknesses between 0.8 and 6mm as standard from which pads can be cut,  but material can also be  moulded into bespoke pads which require a specific finish or textures surface etc.  Using one of our many on-site saws, presses or our oscillating knife, we are able to convert Polyester Plastic into bespoke sized pads, which can be supplied plain or coated in a choice of self adhesives or foils.

    What are Polyester Plastics Pads?

Polyester Plastic Pads are cut from sheets of material which is also called PET or (polyethylene terephthalate).  There pads are a popular product providing high dimensional stability, excellent mechanical strength and good resistance to creep, a material produced by reacting terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol.  Polyester is a thermoplastic which means these pads and the raw compounds can be repeatedly melted and reformed which is why the material is also easily recyclable.

Polyester Pads offer resistance to chemicals, provide very low moisture absorption and are a good electrical insulator.    Due to the material's good creep strength, low moisture absorption and outstanding dimensional stability, Polyester Plastic Pads are suited to applications where complex parts with dimensional accuracy and surface quality are needed.

When choosing pads, our customers have the option of taking Polyester Plastic Pads produced as squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval shaped pads or ‘discs’,  in a range of thicknesses.  Manufacturing pads in-house even means we can supply them in a plain or self adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations.

    Why use Polyester Plastic Pads?

Polyester Pads are made using a high-density plastic material combining excellent mechanical, electrical and thermal properties with good chemical resistance and dimensional stability.

Polyester Plastic Pads offer dimensional stability and high moisture absorption - where the pads can't be cut or pressed from a flat sheet, they can also be extruded or moulded into bespoke shapes and profiles with a choice of textures, finishes and surfaces.

Polyester Plastic Pads have good electrical properties, heat and ageing resistance, low creep, good colour retention, and wear resistance.   Polyester plastic pads can be used where there is exposure to dilute acids, oils and greases and alcohol, UV and a number of chemicals offering an operating temperature range of -20°C up to +115ºC.

    Other types of plastic available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice of plastic sheeting - our most popular materials being:

    • PTFE
    • PVC
    • Nylon
    • Polycarbonate
    • HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)
    • ABS
    • Polypropylene
    • Acetal
    • Acrylic
    • Nylatron

    Benefits of using Polyester Plastic

    • Low water absorption.
    • Excellent electrical properties.
    • Excellent resistance to chemicals.
    • Good heat and heat ageing resistance.
    • Chemically insert - suitable for food and drink packaging.
    • Excellent wear properties.

Advantages of using Polyester Plastic Pads

Each type of plastic material has  its own set of excellent properties and characteristics which make it an excellent product for a number of applications.  Polyester plastics are easily machinable even where there is very delicate detailing involved, or can alternatively be moulded or extruded into an infinite number of bespoke pads and profiles with smooth or textured surfaces.

Polyester Plastic Pads offer excellent electrical properties, resistance to heat and heat ageing, excellent wear properties, low water absorption, UV , Ozone and chemical resistance.  These excellent features make the  pads and other components made from this material highly durable and with endless uses.

Polyester Plastic Pads and other components cut from them can be found used in the automotive industry forming parts such as interior cases, handles and wiper arms, they can be used as switches and casings in the electronics industry, converted into gears, gaskets, rollers for engineering uses and even as medicine dispensers and dosers within the pharmaceutical industry.  Transparent Polyester is also safe for use as food and drink packaging, sometimes used as egg cartons, as a glass alternative to bottles.
