Reinforced Silicone Rubber raw materials are manufactured and stocked here in continuous rolls, available in thicknesses from 1mm through to 6mm, in roll lengths of up to 10 meters long from which bespoke washers can be cut. As we house a range of state of the art conversion machinery on-site, we are able to take these rolls, and cut them into washers for use in a multitude of applications.
All our washers are manufactured in-house using a combination of a skilled workforce and high-spec machinery, using either our oscillating knife or one of our many presses, depending upon size, thickness and quantity required. What are Reinforced Silicone Rubber Washers?
A ‘washer’ is a flat ring of material with Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) measurements, which is placed between two surfaces or between joints in order to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, creating a level surface for nuts, bolts and other fixings to rest on, improving the fit for fixings and can be used as a water or air tight seal.
They can be cut as a solid ring or with bolt holes along its flange to allow for fittings.Just like Standard Silicone (SI) rubber, Reinforced Silicone rubber is an excellent material choice for converting into high performance washers and seals which can operate at high and low temperatures. Silicone rubber even performs well when used outdoors and exposed to UV, weathering, ozone and moisture.
This Reinforced Silicone Rubber is formulated using the same compound as standard silicone, but has a glass fabric running through the center which acts as reinforcement to produce a more superior and durable, tear resistant material which in return results in a much stronger, non stretch washer.
Why use Reinforced Silicone Rubber Washers?
Reinforced Silicone Rubber Washers can be used in a similar way to a gasket where they create a seal, they also also used to create a level surface and as spacers. Reinforced Silicone Rubber Washers are often recognisable by their red colouration, however, these washers can also be made using different grades of reinforced silicone which are black or grey in colour.
Reinforced Wilicone Washers are available in a choice of thicknesses from 1mm through to 6mm, they offer a broad working temperature range of around -62ºC - 260ºC, the same chemical resistance to standard silicone rubber, are odourless, tasteless and non-toxic, offering far more superior durability and tear resistance compared to standard silicone, this is thanks for the glass fabric reinforcing layer which creates excellent tear resistance and non-creep characteristics, making the material suitable for use in applications that require non-stretch seals and washers.
