Silicone Rubber Seals
ASG are one of the UK’s largest non-metallic material converters, having a network of manufacturers and suppliers enabling us to offer an array of seals, including those produced using various grades of silicone rubber. We supply the highest quality silicone rubber seals taking the forms of gaskets, washers, O-rings, mouldings and extrusions, which are all designed for the purpose of preventing leaks or the ingress of air, fluids and gas. All our seals are made to order and are produced using samples or drawings provided by customers to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application. As each form of seal needs to be manufactured using a different process, ASG has invested heavily in various machinery meaning we can offer high or low quantities.
What is a Silicone Rubber Seal
Silicone (SI) rubber is an excellent material for producing high-performance mechanicals seals and gaskets which can operate at high and low temperatures. Silicone rubber performs well when exposed to UV, weathering, ozone and moisture, and is available in range grades, hardnesses and colours. ‘Seal’ is a generic term for products often taking the form of cut gaskets, strips, washers, extruded or moulded profiles and edge trims. They are often used as a gap-filler between surfaces, acting as a separator or a barrier to prevent liquids, particles or gases from escaping or penetrating the application and in a number of vibration dampening, sealing and insulating applications.
Why use Silicone Rubber Seals?
Customers often choose silicone rubber for their seals due to its number of excellent characteristics and features. Silicone rubber seals have a broad working temperature range for use in hot and cold environments, with high-temperature versions also available for extreme heat. Silicone rubber seals are resistant to ozone, many chemicals and fungal growth, they also offer excellent tensile strength, tear resistance, electrical insulating properties and are available in food safe and flame retardant grades too.
We can offer customers a huge choice when they come to us for their sealing needs, ensuring we can offer a solution to just about any application. Each type of silicone rubber has its own range of properties, colours, thicknesses, etc – our most popular include:
- High-Temperature Silicone
- FDA Approved Silicone
- Metal Detectable Silicone
- Platinum cured Silicone
- Conductive Silicone
Benefits of Silicone Rubber Seals
Using seals manufactured from silicone rubber has a number of benefits, these will vary depending on the grade of silicone used, but include flame retardancy, wide operating temperature range – even higher range when using the High-Temperature grade, resistance to weathering, UV, ozone and chemicals. Some types of silicone rubber can be used as electrical insulation and in Food, Beverage and pharmaceutical industries (FDA grades), with each type produced in a range of hardnesses, thicknesses and in some grades a range of colours.
