Cork Sheets

Anti-Vibration Cork Sheets

Advanced Seals & Gaskets offer a vast range of materials in sheet form from a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, including various grades of cork, including anti-vibration cork sheets. All cork has anti-vibration properties, however, the type used will depend upon the application and the exposures such as the temperature range, fuel, oil and certain chemicals.

Our anti-vibration cork sheets are manufactured as rolls in a range of thicknesses but can be cut down and supplied in 1-meter x 1 meter or 2-meter x 1-meter sheets, as we carry out all our conversion on-site, we can cut these down to shorter widths and lengths, all of which can be supplied by ASG can be supplied either plain or laminated with one of our many self-adhesives, foils or with other materials.

What are Anti-Vibration Cork Sheets?

All cork materials can be used to insulate against vibration, however, cork bonded with synthetic rubber such as EPDM, neoprene, Nitrile or SBR increases the flexibility of the material and gives it resistance towards oils, acids and higher temperatures.

Cork material itself is manufactured in continuous rolls at specific lengths depending upon the material thickness which can be converted into cut parts or supplied as full anti-vibration cork sheets, giving customers the option to cut their own parts as and when required.

Why use Anti-Vibration Cork Sheets ?

Anti-vibration cork sheets are popular and often taken as they give the customer and end-user the flexibility to be able to cut their own parts such as strips, gaskets or washers out as and when they are required. Cork is chemically inert, resistant to fungus and mould growth, flame retardant, anti-static, flexible and durable.

An anti-vibration cork sheets are used for the reduction of noise and vibration, usually produced by heavy machinery or equipment. The high level of vibration or shaking caused by such machinery not only causes further damage to surrounding foundations and creates an unsafe environment for workers, but can also create excess noise leading to hearing impairment.

The use of anti-vibration cork sheets is to stop any machinery from becoming unsteady and moving, again which is a safety risk to employees, but also reduces wear and tear on the device itself. Anti-vibration cork sheets can be cut to size using basic knives or blades, and will easily adhere to floors, walls and ceilings.

Advantages of Using Anti-Vibration Cork Sheets

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a network of material suppliers and manufacturers allowing us to supply anti-vibration cork sheets in a variety of sizes, thicknesses and grades. We stock a number of cork rolls in-house, enabling a quick turnaround for cut sheets and also a quick despatch time on full rolls.

Using anti-vibration cork sheets offers many desirable qualities depending upon the grade including thermal insulation, noise and vibration absorption properties and sealing against air, oil and chemical leaks. Anti-vibration cork sheets is chemically inert, resistant to fungus and mould growth, flame retardant, anti-static, flexible and durable.

Cork material is easy to cut and to work with,  it holds adhesive well and due to its flexible nature fits and adheres to most surfaces.

Benefits of using Anti-vibration Cork Sheets

    • Sound and vibration dampening
    • Thermal insulation properties
    • Bonded with other materials for use with different applications
    • Oils, chemical, fuel & acid resistance (varies between grades of cork)
    • Provides support and stability to reduce excessive movement
    • Durable with abrasion and friction resistance

    Different Grades

Anti-vibration cork sheets can be supplied by ASG in a variety of different grades each holding its own unique properties and characteristics, suited for use within various industries.  Below you will find a brief outline of some of our most popular cork.

Resin-bonded cork – a lightweight, flexible cork, produced using cork granules bound together using a synthetic resin.  This grade of cork is resilient to certain acids and is often used in water retaining applications.

Nitrile bonded cork – manufactured using a combination of cork and nitrile rubber granules, giving a speckled appearance.  Gaskets made from this material can be used where oil and fuel resistance is required, or where high-temperature resistance is required, industries include automotive and general engineering.

Natural Corkconsists of grains of cork with no other added chemicals other than a liquid binder known as ‘agglomeration’ to adhere the particles together.  Natural Cork is relatively cheap compared to sponge and rubber and can be used as a simple coaster, air/dust/water seals, in thermal insulation, acoustic and anti-vibration applications.

Synthetic Cork (SBR) - a combination of synthetic rubber granules and natural cork creates a highly compressible material suitable for low and medium bolt pressure.  The rubber used in this grade provides good flexibility and resilience and improved resistance to oil and fuel.  This material is often used for automotive and industrial gaskets and within construction or plant rooms for noise and vibration reduction.

Neoprene bonded cork – Neoprene bonded cork is a combination of cork and neoprene rubber granules, bound together. This grade has the same speckled appearance as the Nitrile Bonded cork, but different properties, with the addition of the Neoprene rubber, the cork is suited to sealing at higher temperatures and resistant to weathering and oil. Neoprene Bonded cork is suited to oil, engineering, electrical, anti-vibration and soundproofing applications.
