Plastic Washers

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets, we offer a range of high-quality washers, some of which are produced using an array of different materials including plastics. Our washers are manufactured in-house using a combination of a skilled workforce and high spec machinery in practically any size and quantity, with a plain or self-adhesive finish to one or both faces and in a choice of individually cut parts or kiss-cut in roll for quick and easy application. Plastic washers are based on either samples, dimensions or drawings provided by our customers which would detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and thickness. Whether it’s a small sample batch or a multi-thousand run, we have a machine to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed washers in a range of sizes, these include a number of presses and CNC machines, all produced in a choice of finishes including plain, foil and choice of self-adhesives.

What are Plastic Washers?

Washers are a flattened ‘ring’ of material that is placed between 2 surfaces to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, it creates a smooth, level surface for nuts/bolts to rest on or for a better bit for nuts/bolts and, can be used as an air/watertight seal. Plastics are often used to manufacture washers as they’re lightweight and one of the preferred alternatives to metal due to their durability and resistance to corrosion, they also come in different grades with a range of qualities for example impact strength, heat and chemical resistance, etc.

Why use Plastic Washers?

Plastic washers are available in a variety of grades and have a number of properties and can be used as a solution in a number of applications including sealing against fuel, oil and water, washers in machinery where exposed to water and where there is exposure to corrosive fluids.  Industries that utilise plastic washers are packaging, petrochemical, oil & gas and petrochemical processing.

Types of Plastic

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when designing their plastic washer solution, each type has its own range of properties, colours, thicknesses, etc – our most popular materials being:

  • PTFE
  • Polycarbonate
  • Polypropylene
  • HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)
  • PVC
  • ABS
  • Polyester
  • Acetal
  • Acrylic
  • Nylatron

Benefits of using Plastic washers

Using plastic washers offers a whole host of benefits, not only are they cheaper and lighter in weight in comparison to metal and some sponge options, but also offer more resistance to wear, abrasion and corrosion (will not rust unlike metal). Despite being a fairly rigid material, plastic washers can still be compressed to create a tight seal and as well as being great for insulation applications as it does not conduct heat or electricity.    For more information on how plastic can help with your application, please give our sales team a call.
